MANILA, Philippines: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has not made a decision on the recommendation to suspend the increase in premium contributions to the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth), Malacañang said on Friday.
Presidential Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil issued the statement after PhilHealth President and Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Ledesma Jr. claimed that the President did not oppose the PhilHealth premium hike.
Garafil said Marcos was still studying the proposal.
“The review is still ongoing. The President wants to ensure that any increase in premium will substantially be much more in value in terms of benefits and coverage to PhilHealth members,” she said.
The increase is mandated under the Universal Health Care Law, which was signed in 2019. It directs PhilHealth contributions to go up by 5 percent this year.
